Why the appointment of next Super Eagles coach has delayed

Super Eagles Super Eagles

The appointment of the next coach of Super Eagles has been at the centre of discussion since Portuguese gaffer José Peseiro left the role in late February despite leading the team to the finals of the African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The process leading to the appointment of the next gaffer has taken twists and turns with names of different coaches coming up at different times.

The technical committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly lean toward the appointment of a foreign coach.

A source from the NFF told Dailypostthat the technical committee tasked to lead the search for the next coach for the national team has already made their recommendation to the executive committee.

As per reports, former assistant coach to Pep Guardiola, Domenec Torrent and former Cameroon coach, Antonio Conceicao are the two favourites foreign coaches gunning for the top job.

The technical committee's recommendation is however based on the condition that the NFF can afford to pay their wages.

The committee also suggested the hiring of a local coach as another option if the NFF cannot afford the salary of an expatriate coach.

The upcoming days will be crucial as the NFF push to name a new head coach before the FIFA World Cup qualifying series in June.
