On Monday, April 29, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) brought an end to the extensive search for the next Super Eagles head coach, following the departure of José Peseiro.

The Portuguese gaffer left his role after the African Cup of Nations in Cote d'Ivoire despite guiding the team to the final.

In a statement, the NFF appointed Enyimba FC coach Finidi George as the new head coach for the Super Eagles after spending over months with the team as an assistant Peseiro.

The former Ajax forward also served as an interim coach after the departure of José Peseiro, handling the team in friendlies against Ghana and Mali in March.

In a statement confirming his appointment into the new role, the NFF highlighted some remarkable achievements of the former Super Eagles star.

The 56-year-old gained popularity among most fans following his appointment as head coach of Enyimba FC back in 2021.

The former Real Betis star guided Enyimba FC to the NPFL title last season further showing his readiness for the new role.

His immediate task is to lead the team in the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifying series against South Africa and Benin in June.
