Friends and family members of a Lagos lady identified only as Jessica continued to mourn her following an unsuccessful Brazilian butt lift (BBL) procedure.
A WhatsApp message allegedly written by her twin sister seeking for help provides a detailed timeline of Jessica’s final days.
The sister explained that Jessica underwent liposuction and fat transfer surgery to her hips, buttocks, and calves on February 6.
“Please help us save my sister, on February 6th, 2026, my sister had liposuction and fat transfer surgery (to her hips, buttocks, and calves) at Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Ikoyi,” the message read.
She stated that two days after the procedure, Jessica reportedly began experiencing severe pain and swelling, adding that despite taking antibiotics, her condition worsened.
“Her buttocks, hips, and calves became very swollen, tight, red, and inflamed. Even with antibiotics, her condition kept getting worse. Her white blood cell count continued to rise,” she said.
She said that doctors allegedly assumed that too much fat had been injected, which might have blocked proper blood flow.
She added, “A corrective “decompression” surgery was performed on February 13, but she was in a terrible pain before and after the surgery. She did not improve.
“By February 19, the family was told Jessica would be transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).
“There was no ICU bed and no arrangement made. She was inside the ambulance for five hours while she was screaming in severe pain. The nurse from Cynosure did not bring any pain relief injection.”
“Jessica was then taken to another hospital, Emel Hospital in Festac,” noting that there was no plastic surgeon available despite paying N1.5 million for one day in ICU.”
She further said, “Eventually, they moved her to a different facility with a plastic surgeon, incurring a N6 million bill for ICU and surgery, which required selling most of their belongings.”
Friends and social media users have shared their thoughts and expressed sadness on her death.
A voice note allegedly from one of Jessica’s friends is circulating online with the lady screaming in pain saying, “Jessica don leave me comot for this one world, but I tell that girl say, no commot that nyash wey she do , she say dey don do the second surgery for her already.”
The friend added that Jessica was confident about her recovery just days before her death.
“I spoke with Jessica last week; I told her, ‘let me come meet you at the hospital.’ She said, ‘favour, don’t worry, I’ll be okay.’”
The lady said “People are calling me that Jessica is dead, and her sister is calling me. Why must she go and do BBL.”
Jessica’s sister with the account @Nella1245, shared her heartbreak on TikTok, calling out the hospital for what she described as a lack of accountability.
She noted, “A hospital is supposed to be a place that saves lives — not a place families leave with grief. My sister went into Cynosure trusting them with her life. Today she is gone.”
She also criticised the hospital’s denial in its statement to the public.
She said, “If nothing went wrong, then there should be no problem with transparency. Silence and denial will never erase what families are going through.”
Jessica’s sister expressed grief and frustration, saying her sister “never came back the same,” after returning from the hospital.
“All I want is answers. All I want is justice. They can’t silence this,” she added, using the hashtag #JusticeForMySister to demand accountability and transparency from the hospital.
However, some individuals on social media argued she should have been content with her previous procedures, while others blamed the hospital for unsafe practices.
A TikTok user with account @Pair.Pressure blamed the government for what they described as weak regulation of private hospitals and cosmetic clinics.
According to them, stricter oversight could help prevent tragedies like Jessica’s death.
@Pair.Pressure stated, “I still blame the Nigerian government for this because at the end of the day, if our hospitals were regulated, if we had a system that works where these healthcare clinics are held to a higher standard.”
Another TikToker @TosinSilverdam also weighed in on the matter, alleging that the hospital has a history of troubling surgical outcomes.
He said patients are required to sign consent forms acknowledging the risks involved before undergoing procedures.
He also alleged that the hospital always tells patients that cosmetic surgery outcomes are “50/50,” suggesting the facility wouod not be held responsible if complications occur.
He further said that his frienddied at the hospital two years ago after undergoing surgery there.
He stated, “Cynosure hospital has bad records, because when you go for surgery, you’ll sign, they’ll tell you it’s 50/50. If you die, it’s not the hospital’s fault. My friend died in that hospital two years ago after undergoing surgery.”
Responding to the allegations, Cynosure Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, clarified that Jessica did not die under their care. They said she had initially been under their supervision but later chose to go to a different facility.
It stated, “The patient was subsequently taken to a different facility, a decision made outside of our hospital three weeks ago… We extend our deepest condolences to the patient’s family during this difficult time.”
The hospital also addressed the circulating videos of a patient in surgery.
“This video was not recorded at our clinic… The circulation of this content adds additional distress to the grieving family,” it stated.
It further responded to online claims that its facility was notorious for deaths of patients, stating “Despite the significant volume of surgical procedures performed at our facility this year, we have recorded zero patient deaths to the glory of God. We state this clearly, without equivocation.”
