'I'm not a single mom, I'm a single woman raising two kids'- Annie Idibia syas

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Annie Idibia has addressed public perceptions following her divorce from music icon 2Baba, making it clear she does not identify as a “single mom.”

In a recent Instagram post that quickly went viral, Annie wrote: “I'm not a single mom. I'm a single woman raising two kids.” The statement stirred widespread reactions online, with many interpreting it as her attempt to redefine her identity beyond societal labels.

The former couple’s separation was first made public in January 2025 when 2Baba confirmed they had been apart and were proceeding with divorce. Although there were initial claims that his account had been hacked, he later clarified the announcement himself.

Since the split, Annie has reverted to her maiden name, Macaulay, and has openly embraced her single status at public events. Her recent remark has reignited conversations around co-parenting, independence, and the stigma often attached to single motherhood.

While supporters applauded her for asserting her individuality, critics argued the distinction was unnecessary. Regardless, her post has once again placed her at the centre of discussions about identity, healing, and life after a high-profile marriage.

@Vicyndysimipeal___"Words matter. “Single mom” and “single woman raising kids” carry different perspectives, and her clarification is very important."

@lekki8721___"My gender can be quite funny and interesting sometimes.

Just think about how divorce humbled Annie. She used to make her husband's life miserable, kicked out all his friends, and turned him into a guest in his own home.
Musical career was gone.

She’s now literally a ghost without him.

I hope my gender learns that men are actually the prize.

“Single mum
Single woman”

What’s the grammatical difference abeg?"

@DeHealthguide___"I don’t see anything wrong with her statement, she chose what she wants and there is nothing anybody can do about it.
She is a woman thriving in her own little world, encouraging her self and building her own castles."

@ArinzeNwaOtu___"What's the difference. Or are you saying you're not a mom??
What are you smoking"
