Nigerian singer Iyanya Onoyom Mbuk, well known as Iyanya, has spoken openly about a personal struggle many people can relate to, admitting that staying celibate has not been easy for him.
Speaking during a candid chat on the 'Afropolitan' podcast, the 'Ur Waist' crooner revealed that his resolve often wavers, especially when he meets attractive women. According to him, the journey has been anything but smooth.
“My celibacy dey go up and down,” Iyanya said in essence. “You can be trying to stay strong, then you meet a fine girl who gives you every reason to forget celibacy. You do what you do, and later you start missing the celibate life again.”
The 39-year-old artiste also made it clear that marriage is not on his radar for now, explaining that he is still working on himself mentally and emotionally.
“I’m not thinking about getting married at the moment. I know I’m not ready,” he said. “These days, I’m very honest when I meet people. I tell them straight: ‘I’m healing, don’t expect too much from me.’”
Iyanya added that age and experience have changed his approach to relationships. Unlike before, when he might have said what people wanted to hear, he now prefers honesty over leading anyone on.
“When I was younger, I could just talk and make promises. But now, I’d rather be real and say I’m not in that space. I won’t lie to you or play with your emotions,” he explained.
