Nigerian music star D’banj has revealed that he was earning about ₦10 million ($85,000) a week from music at the height of his career in 2008.

Speaking about his financial success during that period, the singer said the figure was based on his performance fees, insisting that the amount was factual and not an exaggeration.

“Because it was ₦10 million for a show, that was what we were charging at least then. And we sometimes do one a week or two, three, depending. It was factual. It wasn't a joke. Ask Sunday Array. He has the books,” D’banj said.

The revelation highlights the commercial power D’banj had attained during the late 2000s, when he was one of Nigeria's biggest music stars.

His earnings were not limited to music performances. D’banj also ventured into television with 'Koko Mansion', a reality show developed around his “Koko” brand and aired exclusively on HiTV.

A report by Africa Facts Zone confirmed that the show premiered in 2009 and featured 12 women living in a mansion in Lagos.

D’banj later revealed that he was paid $1 million for the reality show, a figure reported by Premium Times following his appearance on Channels Television's 'Your View.'

At the time, HiTV was a major competitor to DStv in Nigeria's rapidly expanding pay-TV market. In 2008, HiTV had about 110,000 subscribers compared with DStv's 220,000, while both platforms competed aggressively for Nigerian viewers.
