Former Ivorian international Yaya Touré has named the Super Eagles of Nigeria as his most impressive team at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles enjoyed an impressive campaign in Morocco despite missing out on the ultimate prize.

Eric Chelle’s side displayed attractive attacking football, ending the tournament with 14 goals — more than any other team in the competition.

The three-time African champions kept clean sheets throughout the knockout phase, only losing to hosts Morocco on penalties in the semi-final.

Nigeria bounced back from that defeat to beat Egypt on penalties in the third-place playoff to secure the bronze medal.

Speaking in a chat with Bleacher Report, the former Manchester City midfielder stated that Nigeria were the only team with the two best African players.

“I was really impressed with Nigeria. Nigeria play good football. When you look at the stats, they’ve been scoring more goals than usual,” the former Barcelona midfielder said.

“It felt like a full attack, playing really good football. The thing that impressed me the most was Nigeria — the way they played football and the goals they scored. The players won because they had the two top African players on their team.

“They played really good games but were knocked out by Morocco in the semi-finals.”
