'Osimhen will step in the shoes of Yekini' - John Ogu

Nigerian international John Ogu has stated that Osimhen's remarkable performance in Europe comes as no surprise to him.

The Al Adalah player described the Napoli striker as a player who demonstrates a passionate hunger for success considering his background.

The midfielder who has been capped 26 times for Nigeria believes the 24-year-old will fill the shoes of the legendary Rashidi Yekini- who is believed to be the greatest striker in Nigeria's history.

Osimhen has been firing from all cylinders for the Naples-based team this season, and Ogu believed there is still a lot to come from the ex-Lille attacker.

“You know [Osimhen] grew up on the street. He had a tough time. There was a time he had to fight with Balogun in training. That’s to tell you how because he is hungry for it.”

“When I saw people say congratulations to him, I told him it’s not surprising to me. Osimhen will step in the shoes of Rashidi Yekini.”

Many fans have tipped Osimhen to break Yekini's long-standing record after his heroics against Sao Tome and Principe during the Nations Cup qualifiers in June.

The Super Eagles striker hit a double brace in that encounter as Nigeria battered their rivals 10-0.

By so doing, Osimhen moved his goal tally at the international level from 18 to 22.

The late Rashidi Yekini netted 37 goals in 62 caps for Nigeria from 1984 to 1998.
