Brentford defender Michael Kayode began his senior international career with the Italian national team on a blistering note after scoring on his debut against Turkey.

The 22-year-old, who was named in the starting lineup by head coach Roberto Mancini, was one of the Azzurri's standout performers in the Nations League clash against the Turks.

The long-throw specialist justified his call-up by making an immediate impact for the team with a goal and an assist.

Kayode set up Davide Frattesi for Italy's second goal in the 22nd minute before scoring the third five minutes later.

The young defender couldn't hide his excitement in his post-match reaction.

“I didn’t expect my debut to go like this, so I am really happy,” Kayode said after the game.

“We played in the first half with a fantastic simplicity and determination. We wanted to really prove ourselves in a difficult match in an incredible stadium atmosphere, so winning here was fantastic.”

Born to Yoruba parents in Borgomanero, Italy, Kayode was eligible to represent either Italy or Nigeria.
