Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has been slammed by a movie reviewer, Cinemapointer, over the movie A Very Dirty Christmas.
In a post on Instagram, Cinemapointer described the movie as "Absolutely not recommended".
The movie reviewer then said, "Ignore this warning & your brain will bleed. The sheer amount of stupidity in this one movie is indescribable & appalling. That this movie was made in 2025 is a gaping embarrassment to Nollywood as a whole. 'Owo Blow' was made in 1996. The original 'Rattlesnake' was made in 1995."
Furthermore, "And this utter rubbish excuse of a crime thriller was made by the grandchildren of those producers from THIRTY YEARS AGO! That is a contemptuous shame & a very Big disgrace — Frankly, there's no other way to describe this movie. Going to make a movie for Prime-Time? Have the courtesy to employ intelligent writers. YOUR AUDIENCE DESERVES RESPECT!"
Not pleased with the post, IK Ogbonna described it as unintelligent, adding that it lacked the nitty-gritty of a movie review.
He said on Instagram, "This is one of the most unintelligent and unserious posts I've seen in a while. If this is meant to be a review, where is the actual analysis? No breakdown of story, characters, directing, performances, or technical elements -just insults and noise. That isn't criticism; it's laziness. Also, who sponsored this review? Was it commissioned or influenced in any way? Because when there's this much hostility and zero substance, transparency becomes necessary. Respect intelligent critique.
Not letting the comment slide, Cinemapointer lashed out at IK Ogbonna, saying the kind of movies he and his colleagues churn out don't deserve any sensible review.
He said, "Only intelligent movies deserve 'intelligent critiques.' — If you & your ilk don't respect us (your audience) enough to brainstorm & analyse stupidity out of the movies you produce before rushing them to cinema, don't expect CinemaPointer to provide an analysis after the painful experience of consuming your product. You want our brains to die patapata.
"We're angry enough that you used fanciful advertising to deceive us into leaving home, going to cinema on N900 per litre petrol, paying for N200 per hour parking, buying tickets (N7,000), snacks (N5,000) & drinks (N1,500) to watch beer parlor movies like 'A Very Dirty Christmas'.
"A word of advice to you, Good Sir, & other Court Jesters masquerading as filmmakers, claiming CinemaPointer is stopping you from making money — That money you want to make is other people's sweat & hardwork. So, respect your audience enough to buy fresh sensible stories. Hire intelligent writers. And make good movies.
"That way, you won't be running from pillar to post, pointing fingers; accusing your enemies of paying us, meek & gentle CinemaPointer, to tarnish your movie. While at the same time witch-hunting cinema owners, accusing them of sabotaging your movie (play audio) because of your enemies. Funny how it's always your enemies (Guilty Conscience). Meanwhile, the simple truth is that Nigerians have rejected your ridiculous products.
"In conclusion, please know that we continue to wish you all well & we want you all to succeed. That's why we keep telling you the truth, for truth remains the best form of love."
