Stop manhunt for Igboho, release loyalists - OPC tells Buhari

The Odua Peoples Congress has called on the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to order the Department of State Services to call off the manhunt for the Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho.

The OPC also called on the Federal Government to release all persons arrested at Igboho’s home in Ibadan.

This is according to a statement by OPC President, Otunba Wasiu Afolabi, on Monday.

The statement read in part, “We demand that security agents should call off the manhunt for Sunday Igboho and urgently release all those arrested in that despicable July 1 raid on his Ibadan home.”

The OPC also faulted some northern groups for criticising the 17 southern governors, who demanded that the Presidency be handed over to a southerner in 2023.

Afolabi said, “From where do these misguided northern youths and northern groups derive their sense of entitlement, arrogance and combativeness? Why do they feel that they must have their way on which zone becomes President and the South cannot aspire to the position?

“The OPC hereby urges true leaders of the North to take charge and caution their belligerent people to take things easy. Their arrogant posturing about power shift will only heat up the Nigerian polity.”

The group also lambasted the Senate for rejecting the electronic transmission of election results.

The OPC said it was ironic that at a time the nation was embracing technology, the Senate was trying to take Nigeria backwards.

It called on the President not to sign the bill if it did not include the electronic transmission of results.
