Stop blaming us for hunger in Nigeria - PDP fires back at APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly refuted claims that the opposition is responsible for the economic hardship and widespread hunger confronting Nigerians, urging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to halt its ongoing political blame game.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the PDP slammed recent remarks made by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka during a television appearance, alongside similar comments reportedly made by President Bola Tinubu in Kaduna during the flag-off of his 2027 re-election campaign.

The opposition party described the remarks as deliberate attempts by the ruling administration to evade accountability and distract the public from pressing national challenges under its watch.

"Our message to the APC is simple: stop the blame game and start taking responsibility. Nigerians deserve solutions, not excuses," Mohammed stated. "The government in power must address the country’s challenges through concrete, measurable, and sustainable actions that will bring meaningful relief to citizens."

The PDP emphasized that after more than a decade in office, the ruling party must answer for its stewardship rather than continuously using the PDP's 16-year tenure as a blanket justification for current policy shortcomings. While acknowledging occasional achievements by the current administration, the party clarified that such acknowledgment does not constitute an endorsement of its broader policies or an acceptance of shifted blame.

Mohammed challenged the federal government to present credible, practical paths toward economic recovery and food security. He noted that rather than engaging in endless political arguments, the APC should explain how it intends to make food affordable, support farmers, strengthen local food production, create jobs, curb insecurity, and restore the purchasing power of ordinary citizens.

"Today, citizens are demanding practical solutions, affordable food, economic stability, and improved security, not endless political arguments and blame shifting," Mohammed added, expressing confidence that Nigerians will ultimately judge political parties by their records and genuine commitment to public welfare.
