'Respect yourself enough to stay away from places you aren’t invited to' - Kate Henshaw

Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has called out the growing culture of attending events without invitations, urging people to show more respect for hosts and their efforts.

In a video shared on her Instagram page, the actress addressed both individuals who show up at parties uninvited and those who bring extra guests after receiving a personal invitation.

Henshaw questioned the motive behind such actions, describing gatecrashing as disrespectful and inconsiderate to event organisers who put time, resources, and planning into hosting gatherings.

She did not hold back as she addressed the trend directly. She said;

“I want to talk about something rampant, has been rampant, and is still rampant. I just want to ask those of you who show up uninvited at events and parties, what’s your purpose? What do you aim to achieve?”

She also criticised those who receive invitation cards meant for one person but decide to come along with friends or relatives without first informing the host.

“Then, those of you who receive a card that admits only one person and invite all your village people, don’t check with the host; you pack your people and come. What are you doing there?”

The actress further urged people to value themselves and avoid forcing their way into spaces where they are not welcome.

“Why don’t you respect yourself and stay away? It’s rude, you’re a gate crasher.”

Reinforcing her message, Henshaw concluded with a strong piece of advice:

“Respect yourself enough to stay away from places you aren’t invited to.”
