Thomas Muller has mocked Lionel Messi following Bayern Munich's triumph over Paris Saint-Germain in the round 16 stage of this year's UEFA Champions League.

The Bundesliga title holders beat the French champions 2-0 at the Allianz Arena to secure a convincing 3-0 aggregate win courtesy of goals from Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry.

Lionel Messi who was on parade for Guitar's side could not make any real impact in both legs and has now suffered five knockout defeats to the German champions including the famous 8-2 defeat in 2020 and the 4-0 defeat in 2013.

Speaking in a post-match reaction, Thomas Muller teased that things always go well for the Bavarians anytime they come up against the Argentine World Cup hero and that his rival Christiano Ronaldo was the problem when he was at Real Madrid.

“Against Messi, things always go well at all levels in terms of results. At club level, Cristiano Ronaldo was our problem when he was at Real Madrid.

The 33-year-old however added that he has a lot of respect for the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner's success at the World Cup.

“But I have the greatest respect for Messi's World Cup performance. Messi’s individual performance at the World Cup was amazing. He carried the whole squad. It’s not so easy to play at a team like PSG. It’s difficult to get a really good team balance.”

Meanwhile, Messi's future at PSG remains uncertain as his contract runs out at the end of the season.
