Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has said there is no contact between his representatives and German champions Bayern Munich yet, although he is aware of the possibility of playing with Harry Kane, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Arokodare has been in splendid form in Belgium this season, netting 22 goals and seven assists in 42 games across all competitions and earning his first Super Eagles cap in March.
In his second full season at Genk, his performance has attracted suitors across Europe and Bayern were rumoured to be interested in signing him.
The striker has also revealed that he is open to a move, but there is nothing concrete yet in terms of offers.
“If the opportunity comes, I have to make sure I’m ready. You don’t know how many times a train will pass, so I don’t want to miss any opportunities,” Arokodare told Het Laatste Nieuws.
He also talks up the possibility of playing with Harry Kane before denying the rumours.
“That I would be the stand-in for Harry Kane? Yes. That would be nice, wouldn’t it? It’s still rumours, I haven’t had any contact.”
The 24-year-old was bought from Amiens in France’s second division in January 2023 for €5m, and his current market value stands at €13m, while Genk have the chance to name the figures they want for one of their most prized assets at the moment.
Arokodare previously had a stint in the German Bundesliga in 2020, featuring for Cologne on loan, but he didn’t score in 11 games for the club.
Currently, he has been pivotal to Genk’s title charge in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League until their slump in the Championship playoff.
After leading the regular season, Genk’s run has taken a bad turn, as they have slipped to third in the playoffs and their title hopes are hanging by a thread.
However, Arokodare remains adamant about their ambitions.
“I don’t think anyone saw this coming,” Arokodare told Het Laatste Nieuws.
“We had a great season, and then you keep losing by one goal. Penalties against a red card… It was tough to take.
“Every player of Genk has played a fantastic season. The coach was great, the fans are amazing.”
They face defending champions Club Brugge on Sunday (today) and that offers a chance to salvage some pride and possibly sneak into second place, which remains mathematically possible.
“You see, it’s not over yet. If you beat them (Club Brugge), you can look up again… You never know. I don’t think we have anything to prove.”
Union SG are currently top of the table with 48 points, followed by Brugge in second with 46, while Genk are third with 41 points.
