Former France midfielder Claude Makélélé has slammed Real Madrid following their 2-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby last weekend.

Los Blancos suffered their second defeat of the season to their city rivals away at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday, September 20.

Two goals from new signings Álex Grimaldo and Jonathan David ensured that Antonio Rüdiger’s late header only counted as a consolation.

José Mourinho, in his post-match press conference, blamed poor officiating for his team’s defeat to Diego Simeone’s side.

However, Makélélé believes Mourinho’s side should look at themselves in the mirror rather than blame the officiating for their loss.

The former Chelsea midfielder also chided José Mourinho’s side for approaching the game without a clear strategy.

“There is no understanding. Neither between the players nor with the coach. Mourinho must talk to them,” Makélélé said.

“The team is weak, there is no game plan and no clear ideas. There is nothing. Nothing, nothing, nothing… Absolutely nothing. We must demand more from them.

“The problem is not the referee, there is an obvious deficiency in the team.”

Real Madrid have now dropped to fourth in the league log, six points behind rivals Barcelona after just seven games in La Liga.
