Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen featured prominently as Galatasaray recorded their first win in this season’s UEFA Champions League campaign.
The 27-year-old ended his goal drought on his return from injury, scoring the final goal in Galatasaray’s 4-2 victory over his former club Lille on Wednesday night.
Yunus Akgün scored an early opener for the Turkish champions in the second minute before Soriba Diaoune equalised for Lille five minutes later.
Diaoune scored his second goal of the night to give Lille the lead in the 39th minute before Aleksey Batrakov drew Galatasaray level on the stroke of half-time.
Nabil Bentaleb scored an own goal to give Galatasaray a 3-2 lead seven minutes after the restart before Osimhen put the result beyond doubt in the 61st minute with a powerful strike.
Osimhen refused to celebrate his goal against Lille out of respect for his former club.
“I love this stadium. The fans are incredible. We had a tough match. I’m very happy for our team; we won. I also wish Lille good luck in their next matches. Lille players are very tough. They even took the lead. We managed to win the match together as a team,” he said.
The former Napoli man also had a message for his critics following his difficult spell after returning from injury.
“Nobody can teach me how to play with the ball or how to score goals. I’m one of the best strikers in the world.”
Osimhen has now registered seven goals and three assists in eight appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray this season.
