Napoli release Osimhen as AFCON beckons

Serie A champions Napoli has released Victor Osimhen ahead of next month's African Cup of Nations showdown in Ivory Coast.

Osimhen, who turns 25 today, December 29 has been suspended for Napoli's last game of the year prompting his immediate release by the club.

The Super Eagles striker was sent off in Napoli's last game against Jose Mourinho's side.

Napoli will take on Monza today (Friday, December 25) at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium as they look to bounce back to winning ways following their humiliating defeats to Frosinone and Roma.

Osimhen is currently back home in Nigeria and is enjoying his Christmas holiday ahead of the big national assignment next month.

The former Lille striker is expected to link up with his Super Eagles teammates in Abu Dhabi to begin preparations ahead of the AFCON.
