Charlton Athletic confirm Arthur Okonkwo’s call-up for Super Eagles AFCON qualifiers

Championship outfit Charlton Athletic have confirmed the call-up of Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo for the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2026 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers later this month.

The Super Eagles will come up against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau as the qualifying series for the 2026 AFCON kicks off.

Okonkwo, who joined Charlton on loan from Wrexham, could make his debut in a competitive fixture for the three-time African champions in the two upcoming fixtures.

The 24-year-old first featured for Eric Chelle’s side during the Unity Cup in May.

Okonkwo is expected to compete with the likes of Maduka Okoye and Stanley Nwabali for a starting spot in goal for the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles will begin their campaign against Madagascar on Friday, September 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Nigeria will travel away to face Guinea-Bissau at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau four days later.
