Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick has explained his reasoning behind substituting Marcus Rashford during their Premier League clash against Everton.

Rashford was substituted in the 70th minute of United's 2-2 draw with the Toffees at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday, September 6.

Speaking in his post-match reaction, Carrick disclosed that the former Barcelona loanee had a bit of a knock, which informed his decision to withdraw the 28-year-old.

"Yeah, he [Marcus Rashford] was feeling a bit of something," Carrick told the club's official website.

"He's done very well. As I said during the week, he's done ever so well since he came back. I thought he looked really sharp again today and dangerous," Carrick said.

"That final little moment didn't quite drop for him, but nevertheless, I thought he created really good opportunities, and there was a big threat throughout the game."

Bryan Mbeumo gave the Red Devils the lead in the 46th minute before Tyrique George equalized for the home side in the 83rd minute.

Benjamin Sesko, who came off the bench, restored Manchester United's lead in the 88th minute, before Maitland-Niles pegged the Red Devils back in stoppage time.
