Award-winning Nollywood actress and content creator Bimbo Ademoye has clarified why she is in no rush to transition her projects to the cinema, pointing to prohibitive production economics and discouraging box office returns across the industry.

Her clarification follows a resurfaced video interview from the Off the Top with VJ podcast that went viral on Sunday, October 4, 2026, just as her latest self-produced film, My 30th Wedding, achieved a historic milestone by crossing 10 million views on YouTube within three days of its release.

Despite growing demands from fans urging her to take her record-breaking YouTube success to theatrical screens, Ademoye explained that the numbers behind Nigerian cinema releases often fail to yield a sustainable return on investment.

"I don't think anybody in the past year has made money back, at least their capital. Talk more of profits," Ademoye stated.

The actress broke down the heavy financial burden placed on filmmakers, noting that a movie produced with a ₦150 million budget typically needs to gross nearly ₦500 million at the box office just for the creator to recoup production costs after cinema operators, distributors, and marketing channels take their cuts.

She further cited the withdrawal and scale-back of major international streaming services from the West African market as a factor that has left filmmakers with fewer distribution safety nets.

While acknowledging box office giants like Funke Akindele, whom she described as the "queen of marketing", Ademoye noted that she prefers utilizing direct streaming platforms like YouTube, where her content reaches massive global audiences instantly without astronomical overhead.
