The sons of late Nollywood veteran Olu Jacobs delivered heartfelt tributes to their father during his Service of Songs, remembering him not only as one of Africa's greatest actors but also as a devoted family man whose values shaped their lives.
Speaking through tears, his first son, Benga Jacobs, reflected on the special bond they shared, revealing that while the world knew his father as the celebrated Olu Jacobs, he simply knew him as "Dad."
"To the world he was Olu Jacobs… To me he was simply dad," Benga said, adding that his father was the only person who called him "Baba," a nickname that constantly reminded him of the unique bond they shared.
He recalled how the veteran actor taught him confidence, self-worth and the importance of carrying himself with dignity, saying his father believed that one's appearance, disposition and presence should speak before ever entering a room.
Benga also described his father as someone who loved people despite carrying many personal burdens, stating that he always found time to laugh, dance and bring joy to others.
Reflecting on his father's final years, he praised his resilience, adding that the actor fought to protect his family's privacy, defended the entertainment industry he loved and battled illness with courage.
Ending his tribute, Benga bid his father an emotional farewell, saying: "Dad… now there is a time to rest. So rest, Dad, rest knowing that you made us proud."
Olu Jacobs' second son also became emotional as he remembered growing up believing his father was "a giant," long before he understood why millions across the world admired him.
"For me he was simply dad. We were very close. He was magnetic," he said, describing the screen icon as genuine, warm, and someone who enjoyed hosting people and building lasting friendships.
He said his father used stories to teach him about Nigeria, the creative industry and the realities of building a career in entertainment, openly discussing both its achievements and challenges so he would understand the sacrifices behind the profession.
The younger son further revealed that, above everything else, Olu Jacobs prioritised family, noting that the veteran actor fiercely protected their privacy.
"We were never forced into interviews or photographs. He made it our choice," he said, explaining that as they grew older, their father insisted that anyone who wanted to interview them or publish their photographs first had to seek their permission.
