Nigerian singer and songwriter Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has publicly commended female musicians in the country, acknowledging the systemic challenges they navigate within the music industry.

The Shake Body hitmaker took to his X page on Thursday to express solidarity with female entertainers following viral comments made by singer-songwriter Fave regarding gender dynamics in Afrobeats.

"Big up all the females in the entertainment industry… it ain't easy being a woman in this industry… big up to y'all for real," Skales wrote.

Skales' public show of support followed an appearance by Fave on the Afropolitan Podcast, where the Baby Riddim breakout star spoke candidly about the hurdles female acts face compared to their male counterparts.

During the podcast interview, Fave argued that female artists face dual expectations, where their talent is routinely scrutinized alongside their physical appearance and sex appeal.

"When Tems, I, and Ayra Starr came into the scene, we came with different voices that were different from the very feminine voice people were used to," Fave said during the session. "Before us, female artistes used to sing in a very feminine way."
