Singer Spyro has outlined the personal rules that govern his music career, saying he maintains strict standards on collaborations, on-screen conduct, and the kind of content he is linked to.
Speaking during a recent interview on TVC, the singer said he does not permit smoking or nudity in videos he features in and avoids working with artists whose projects promote inappropriate themes.
“You can’t be in a video with me and you’re smoking. That can’t happen. You can’t be in a video with me and you’re naked. That won’t happen. I have rules and regulations to working with people”, he said.
He described the guidelines as non-negotiable conditions for any partnership.
He also addressed his approach to music with explicit or unclean content, stating that he declines features on songs that do not align with those standards.
“I can’t be on a song that is not clean, to start with”, he said.
He said he reached out to Shoday over the tone of the song’s promotion and encouraged him to embrace Christianity.
According to Spyro, Shoday responded that each of them should focus on their own path at the time.
“When I did ‘Sweet’ with Shoday, Shoday was promoting it in some funny kind of way, and I called him. I said, ‘Shoday, give your life to Christ.’ And he said I should continue my own while he faces his.”
The singer added that he views his presence in the music industry through a faith lens and expressed optimism that more entertainers will eventually align with Christian beliefs.
He described the process as gradual and maintained that his work is guided by that conviction.
“Even if he’s not with Christ, he’s coming to Christ. Until every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. That’s why I’m in this industry. It’s a gradual process”, he added.
Known for hits such as Who Is Your Guy, Spyro has positioned himself as one of the more vocally faith-driven acts in Nigeria’s mainstream music scene.
