Popular Nigerian dancer and social media personality Korra Obidi has sparked reactions online after opening up about the income gap content creators face based on location.
Speaking about streaming revenue and online monetization, Korra explained that creators in Nigeria earn significantly less compared to those in countries like the United States.
“I only make money from content creation because of my location. If I get a million streams from Nigeria, it’s $54; but in America, it’s $1,000,” she said.
Her statement quickly generated conversations online, with many social media users discussing how geography affects earnings on streaming and digital platforms.
Reacting to the video, an X user identified as @IGOmeonu explained that advertising and subscription rates are much higher in Western countries.
“Valid. Aside from advertising, subscription rates in Africa and rates in North America and Europe are miles apart,” the user wrote.
Another user, @_Root, described it as a matter of economics tied to digital advertising in Africa.
“Africa internet does not have a lot of digital ad buys,” the user stated.
Some users also linked the issue to why many Nigerian artists and creators now target international audiences with their content and music style.
Others, however, praised Korra Obidi for shedding light on the realities many African creators face despite recording millions of views online.
