Nigerian singer Chike has opened up about the relationship advice he received from his mother.
Speaking on Ada’s Room podcast, the 33-year-old revealed that his mother warned him against marrying for love alone, urging him to choose a partner who brings value to his life.
“I think everybody should look for a partner that has value. Personally, my mum advised me never to settle down with a woman who doesn’t have a source of livelihood regardless of love,” he said.
Chike added that his mother also cautioned him against marrying into financially struggling families or choosing a partner burdened with heavy family responsibilities.
“She also told me never to marry someone with the baggage of family responsibilities, especially a firstborn that is not productive,” he stated.
The singer explained that he now pays close attention to a potential partner’s background and productivity before committing, advising men to look beyond physical attraction and consider long-term compatibility when pursuing serious relationships.
“My mum has told me never to settle with a woman who is not working.”
