Live streaming is fast becoming Nigeria’s newest digital goldmine, as entertainers and influencers shift from traditional content creation to real-time online engagement.
The trend has gained major traction in the past year, with stars like Shank Comics, Peller, Carter Efe, and Enzo leading the charge.
The streaming wave intensified after global Twitch sensation Kai Cenat visited Nigeria in 2024, drawing attention to the country’s untapped potential in the industry. Since then, more Nigerian creatives have adopted platforms such as Twitch, Kick, YouTube Live, TikTok Live, Instagram Live, and Facebook Live to connect with fans in real-time.
However, streaming in Nigeria is no easy feat. Poor internet connectivity, high data costs, and unstable electricity remain major obstacles. This reality was highlighted during Kai Cenat and Shank Comics’ livestream when a sudden power outage disrupted their session. As a result, successful streaming often requires heavy financial investment in equipment, power supply, and data subscriptions.
Despite these challenges, early adopters have proven that Nigerian streamers can compete on a global level.
Shank Comics
Emmanuel Adesokan, popularly known as Shank Comics, transitioned from skit-making to full-time streaming and has become Africa’s most-followed Twitch streamer. His content centers around album listening parties and music previews, and he has hosted major personalities including Kai Cenat, Olamide, and Reginae Carter.
Peller
Habeeb Hamzat, aka Peller, rose to fame through TikTok livestreams before moving to Kick. He currently holds the record for Africa’s most-viewed stream, with over 76,000 viewers. Peller has hosted top artistes such as Davido, Tiwa Savage, and Olamide, solidifying his influence in the space.
Carter Efe
Former skit maker Carter Efe entered the streaming world in 2025 and quickly gained popularity on Twitch. His breakthrough moment came after hosting Davido on a live session. Today, he is one of Nigeria’s most talked-about streamers, known for his dramatic and entertaining style.
Enzo the Gamer
Rynenzo, popularly known as Enzo, is regarded as one of Nigeria’s streaming pioneers. His content focuses on gaming competitions, and he has connected with stars like iShowSpeed and Rema.
Phyna
BBNaija winner Ijeoma Otabor, aka Phyna, joined Twitch in 2026. Though still building her audience, she continues to engage viewers with dance and lifestyle content, staying consistent despite criticism.
Charles Okocha
Nollywood actor Charles Okocha recently announced his entry into streaming. Known for his high-energy persona, he is expected to add more entertainment flair and competition to the industry.
How Streamers Make Money
According to Fourthwall, earnings in live streaming vary widely. Beginners may earn little to nothing, while top creators make thousands of dollars monthly through ads, subscriptions, tips, brand deals, and memberships. Smaller streamers typically earn between $100 and $500 monthly.
As Nigerian creatives continue to push boundaries, the streaming industry is shaping up to be the next big digital frontier—proving that with consistency and creativity, global success is possible even from Africa.
