'I'd have loved to meet Ghana's film industry stakeholders but no one approached me' - Spike Lee

Award-winning American filmmaker Spike Lee has disclosed that he was not approached by anyone from Ghana's film industry while he was there.

The filmmaker claimed that he would have loved to speak with people in the film industry and exchange ideas, among other things, during an interview on Accra-based 'Asaase Radio'.

Spike Lee asserted that he was unaware that Ghana had a film industry and that, despite the announcement of his trip, the National Film Authority and other important local film industry players did not contact him.

“I did not know that there is a thriving film industry in Ghana, I know about Nigeria. And I made the point that it was publicised that I was coming and no one approached me from the film office. I would have loved to meet the people in the film industry here [in Ghana].”

He was astounded to learn that Ghana had a film institute called NAFTI (now the University of Media, Arts and Communication).

The filmmaker declared that he was always accessible to speak with the film school's students as well as the directors of the institution.

The US Vice President Kamala Harris visited Ghana on Sunday, March 26, the same day that Spike Lee was there.

According to reports, the filmmaker was a member of Kamala Harris' creative arts team.
