'Why plead guilty? learn from Tinubu' - Reactions as Woodberry pleads guilty to fraud

Mr Woodberry Mr Woodberry

Olalekan Jacob Ponle widely known as Mr Woodberry, an accomplice and home boy of former internet fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, commonly known as Hushpuppi has pleaded guilty to internet fraud.

The fraudster in his plea agreed to turn over to the foreign government his assets including luxury cars, watches, and $8 million that he acquired from the victims he defrauded.

Woodberry and Hushpuppi, who is presently serving an 11-year term for a related fraud offence, were both apprehended in Dubai on June 10, 2020.

Before being taken into custody, Woodberry was well-known for wearing and flaunting pricey designer clothing as well as displaying his unlawful income to his voluminous Instagram following, the most of whom were unaware that his opulent lifestyle was supported by cybercrime.

Numerous people have spoken on the news's development and have responded to it in various ways.

While some people think that admitting guilt is preferable to going to jail, others have questioned why he will plead guilty and sacrifice his assets if he will still be sentenced to prison after being proven guilty.
