The family of late Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba has spoken publicly about the circumstances surrounding her death, giving an account that differs from claims previously made by her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko.
The family members spoke to actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod, who visited them following the actress’ death. They revealed that Tope was an only child and had lost both parents.
According to the family, they supported the actress during her battle with breast cancer in 2023. However, they said she became distant from them after leaving the hospital, eventually blocking relatives and cutting off communication.
They said contact was restored shortly before her death when Tope unexpectedly reached out and asked them to come and take her.
The family further disclosed that during their final interactions, Tope requested that she be buried beside her late mother in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
Family disputes fiancé’s account
The relatives also gave a different account of what happened on the day Tope died.
According to them, Tope repeatedly mentioned her fiancé's name during her final hours and spoke about alleged abuse she had experienced.
They said they were with her when they left a police station and that she only became seriously unwell while they were travelling around Sagamu, Ogun State.
The family said they rushed her to a private hospital, where doctors referred them to Ogun State University Teaching Hospital (OSUTH). She was subsequently declared dead on arrival.
Their account differs from that of Onadeko, who recently claimed that he was informed that Tope had died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos State. He also rejected allegations that she was poisoned, maltreated or died from complications related to her previous cancer battle.
The conflicting accounts have fuelled public interest in the circumstances surrounding the actress' death, with her family and fiancé presenting markedly different versions of her final hours.
Tope Osoba, 40, died on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and is scheduled to be buried in Iperu Remo on August 13.
