Nollywood actress and politician, Tonto Dikeh, along with her bodyguard, Gbenga, has been summoned by the Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, to face charges of alleged assault and criminal trespass.
According to a report by New Telegraph, the court issued the summons on Tuesday, August 6, directing the defendants to appear on August 24, 2024, to respond to the charges.
The case, listed under the suit number CR/359/2024, was initiated by Elvis Abuyere, the Chief Executive Officer of Skyewise Group Limited, a prominent car dealership in Abuja.
The case stems from an incident earlier this year when Dikeh approached the dealership to purchase a brand-new Changan Uni-K 2023 model from Mikano Motors. Abuyere, who has a business relationship with Mikano, paid N85 million to secure the car, with the understanding that Dikeh would pay the balance in installments within three months.
Dikeh made an initial deposit of N37 million for a used 2008/2009 Lexus and an additional N3.5 million. However, by the end of April, she had not settled the remaining balance, breaching the agreed payment terms. In response, Abuyere retrieved the car on May 1 after attempts to recover the outstanding amount were unsuccessful. Dikeh later made further payments totalling N42 million but still owed N2.1 million.
On July 30, Dikeh contacted the dealership for car maintenance services. After the repairs, the dealership demanded the remaining N2.7 million. Instead of settling the bill, Dikeh, accompanied by her bodyguard and two other women, allegedly forced entry into the business premises in Maitama, Abuja.
Dikeh and her companions are accused of criminal trespass, assaulting Abuyere and his staff, and disrupting business operations.
The group also allegedly damaged property and threatened to use social media to tarnish the dealership's reputation. The court will address these allegations at the upcoming hearing.
