'They blamed Asiwaju for my child’s death' - Remi Surutu opens up on backlash she faced

## “They Blamed Him For My Child’s Death” — Remi Surutu Opens Up on Backlash Over Tinubu Support

Yoruba actress Remilekun Oshodi, well known as Remi Surutu, has stirred reactions online after reaffirming her support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

The actress made her stance clear during the launch of EKO57, a pro-Tinubu support group held in Lagos on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

The event was attended by Nollywood figures including Aremu Afolayan, Yomi Fash-Lanso, and Lege Miami.

Speaking at the gathering, Surutu reflected on the intense criticism she has faced due to her political position, revealing that some individuals went as far as blaming her for her daughter’s death.

“Just a day before the election, people accused me of following Asiwaju and blamed him for my child’s death. I paid it no mind. I went out to vote the next day because your vote is your right. Don’t let anyone intimidate or mislead you. When I met Tinubu, our father, I saw he’s doing well. If you believe he hasn’t achieved enough, suggest someone from your family to govern for a single day you’ll understand the challenges then,” she said.

Despite the backlash, the actress maintained her support for the president, insisting that many of Nigeria’s current challenges predate the present administration.

She also commended Tinubu’s leadership, suggesting that some of his efforts may not be visible to the public.

“If this man has not been covering a lot of things, Nigeria would have gone into big mess by now but we don’t know, we just sit at the back of our houses,” she added.
