Celebrities in Nigeria have made it a practice or custom to constantly highlight how they come from a very poor background and how their perseverance and fame was the only thing that kept them out of poverty.

That isn't necessarily the case with all Nigerian superstars, though; some of them were by birthright born into wealthy families and grew up in luxury.

This article highlights various celebrities from Nigeria who were raised amid opulence and were born into it.

Six celebrities who grew in luxury

1. DJ Cuppy

Born November 11, 1992, talented disc jockey Florence Ifeoluwa Otedola better known as DJ Cuppy is a wealthy celebrity born to oil tycoon and businessman Femi Otedola, one of Nigeria’s richest men.

She was born in Lagos State and moved to London at the age of 13, where she completed her secondary education and pursue a university degree.

Cuppy has gained the title of being a philomath as she is known to have a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree and two Masters degrees.

She has traveled the world in style and lived a luxurious life. She is known to follow her passion and devote herself to producing music on her personal record label Red Velvet.

The billionaire daughter got engaged to her footballer boyfriend, Ryan Taylor and took to social media to flaunt her diamond engagement ring. She has currently relocated from Nigeria to Dubai to live with her fiancé, Ryan.



2. Davido

Nigerian Afrobeats singer David Adedeji Adeleke popularly known as Davido was born on 21st November 1992 in Atlanta Georgia. The singer is by far one of Nigeria's highest-earning singer. His net worth is estimated to be $10 million which is equivalent to N4,613,039,960.

Davido was born into the Adeleke’s family. His father Adedeji Adeleke is a Nigerian billionaire, business magnate and founder of Adeleke University who is estimated to have a net worth of about $1.7 billion.

After moving to Nigeria, the singer attended British International School in Lagos state after spending his formative years there.

He continued his education at Babcock University, one of the top universities in Nigeria after leaving Oakwood University due to bad marks.

He gain prominence after releasing "Dami Duro", the second single from his debut studio album Omo Baba Olowo released in 2012, from which six additional singles were taken.

After the demise of his three-year-old son Ifeanyi in October 2022, the singer went on a hiatus from the music scene and social media. He returned on March 31 to release his fourth studio album "Timeless".

Timeless comprises 17 tracks and features collaborations with Skepta, Angelique Kidjo, Asake, Focalistic, Fave and The Cavemen, among others.

Davido has won numerous awards including MTV Europe Music Award for Best African Act (2017), the Headies Awards for Artiste of the Year (2018) and the Headies Award for Digital Artiste of the Year (2022).

Despite being from a wealthy family, Davido grown, worked hard and accumulated his personal wealth.

The singer has also been known for his philanthropic ways to his friends and fans.

He is currently married to his third baby mama Chioma Rowlands, with whom they lost their son, Ifeanyi to drowning in October 2022.



3. Temi Otedola

Nigerian actress and blogger Temiloluwa Elizabeth Otedola is another personality who was born into a wealthy family. She was born on March 20, 1996 to Nigerian business mogul Femi Otedola and her wife Nana Otedola.

Temi studied art history at both the University College London and University of London.

She is engaged to Nigerian singer Mr Eazi with whom she has a podcast named How 'Far with Mr. Eazi and Temi'. Unlike her elder sister DJ Cuppy, Temi appears more reserved and collected and usually keeps her private life off social media.



4. Falz

Nigerian rapper, actor and lawyer Folarin Falana who is better known by his stage name Falz is another celebrity who was born into a wealthy family. He was born in October 27, 1990 to renowned lawyer and human right activist Femi Falana and his wife Funmi Falana who is also a legal practitioner and women's rights activist.

Falz shot into fame in 2009, after releasing his single “Marry Me” which featured Yemi Alade and Poe. In 2015, the single won him a nomination for the “Best Collaboration of the Year” category at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

He has won awards such as the Headies Awards for Best Collabo (2016), the Headies Awards for Best Rap Album (2019) and many more.

Falz has been a strong political activist with many attributing his thought provoking-music to the late afrobeat pioneer and political activist, Fela Aníkúlápó Kuti.



5. Priscilla Ojo

Priscilla Ajoke Ojo is a Nigerian actress, model, entrepreneur, and brand influencer who was born on March 13, 2001. She is the second child of veteran Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.

After graduating from secondary school in 2017, she went to Babcock University where she studied Theatre Arts and graduated in 2021. Priscilla is noted for living luxurious lifestyle and touring the world.

As a digital influencer, she has blazed a trail in the entertainment industry, touring and interacting with top celebrities such as Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Kie Kie, Kiss Daniel, Denrele Edun and Toyin Lawani.



6. Oge Elumelu

Ogechukwu Elumelu is the first daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman and the Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa, Tony Elumelu. She was born on March 29, 2002. She studied Economics, History and Religious Studies at St Catherine's Bramley School, United Kingdom.

The billionaire daughter spends more time with her father at his place of work, UBA where she learnt the Concepts of Banking as an Intern.

It is no news that both father and daughter share a strong bond and hopefully she will lead the Affairs of her father's companies soon.

On her 21st birthday, her father, Tony Elumelu hosted Afrobeats superstar Davido in his mansion where the ecstatic young lady took photos with the singer.
