President Bola Tinubu has sent his condolences to the family of the late legendary musician, actor, journalist, activist, and politician, Onyeka Onwenu.
According to reports, Onyeka Onwenu passed out after performing at the birthday celebration of the managing director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, Mrs. Stella Okoli.
She reportedly died at the age of 72 after being taken to Reddington Hospital in Lagos for medical care.
President Tinubu's media adviser, Ajuri Ngelale expressed the president's condolences to the singer's friends and colleagues in a post made public on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
The president expressed sorrow over the death of the veteran singer, whose inspirational performance of "One Love" in the 1990s inspired a spirit of harmony and camaraderie.
He recalled the late musical icon's numerous artistic efforts to further public welfare, including her legendary partnership with King Sunny Ade on the catchy family planning campaign "Wait for Me" in the 1980s.
The statement reads, "President Tinubu celebrates the life of the versatile and highly gifted artist who applied herself to the whole gamut of artistic enterprise and expression, bringing joy and laughter to many. The President condoles with the entertainment industry, the Imo State Government, and the numerous fans of the departed star over this immeasurable loss. President Tinubu prays for the repose of the deceased artist’s soul and that she finds a place where the music never fades and where there is ‘Dancing in the Sun'"
