The third quarter of 2025 was a somber period for the Nigerian film industry as several Nollywood actors were hit by heartbreaking losses.
From parents to children and close relatives, these tragedies served as painful reminders of life’s fragility.
Here are five Nollywood stars who painfully mourned loved ones in Q3:
1. Ibrahim Chatta lost his godson
September 6 marked a sad day for actor Ibrahim Chatta, who announced the passing of his beloved godson. Sharing his grief on Instagram, he wrote:
“Inna liLlahi wa inna ileyhi rajiun. Ya Allah, You are the Knower of all things. Rest on Dear Godson. Champ.”
2. Peju Ogunmola’s only son passed away
Veteran actress Peju Ogunmola was thrown into mourning after losing her only child, Ayomikun, to a brief illness. Despite receiving medical attention, he sadly could not make it. The news was first shared by her colleague Odunlade Adekola, who penned an emotional tribute on Instagram.
3. Odunlade Adekola lost his father
In July, Nollywood star Odunlade Adekola announced the passing of his father, Pastor N.A. Adekola, who died at the age of 84. Breaking the news with the words “Rest on my daddy”, the actor received an outpouring of condolences from fans and colleagues across the industry.
4. Mercy Aigbe mourned her mother
On September 24, actress Mercy Aigbe revealed the passing of her mother. The news left fans and fellow actors heartbroken as she poured out her grief in a touching social media post. Tributes flooded her page as many joined her in mourning.
5. Joke Jigan bid farewell to her sister
August 29 was a painful day for actress Joke Jigan, who lost her sister, Lizzy. She shared photos of their time together, expressing shock and sorrow:
“Omoh! Be like na to log off all social media for now o because what in the name of death is going on??!! Rest in peace Lizzy my darling sis 😥.”
Shortly after Ayomikun’s death, a video from his burial surfaced online, drawing an outpour of emotions from fans and colleagues.
The footage, which showed family and close friends paying their last respects, further highlighted the devastating impact of his loss on the Nollywood community.
