Entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has mocked President Bola Tinubu and his administration over their budget priorities moments after assuming office.
In 2024, the Federal Government allocated N5bn towards the renovation of the Vice President’s official residence in Lagos State.
In the N2.17tn supplementary budget passed in November 2023, the Federal Government had budgeted N3bn for the renovation of the Vice President’s official residence in Lagos State and another N2.5bn for the renovation of his official residence located within the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
It was later discovered that a total of N5,034,077,063 was spent in May and September of 2024 for the renovation of the VP’s Lagos residence.
Also, in the budget presented to lawmakers to supplement the country’s expenditures for 2023, the government allocated about $38 million for the presidential air fleet, vehicles and for THE renovation of residential quarters for the office of the president, the vice-president and the president’s wife, even though her office is not recognized by the country’s constitution.
As US President Donald Trump assumed office for his second term, on his first day, Trump signed actions that pardoned those charged with crimes related to the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol, delayed the ban on TikTok and worked to revamp the American immigration system.
Trump rescinded 78 Biden-era executive actions, many of which Joe Biden signed on the first day of his administration.
Reacting to Trump's actions, Charly Boy compared Trump’s actions to President Bola Tinubu’s first executive order.
On his social media page, Charly Boy wrote, “Did you notice that there was nothing like renovating of the White House or buying of hundreds of SUVs for both the president & Vice & other thieves that assumed to power? This message is not for America...oooooo”
