Veteran Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga has opened up about how Nigeria's economic realities have changed his spending habits, saying he now prioritises the welfare of his family and dependants over luxury purchases.

Speaking on the Jay On Air podcast, the rapper reflected on how the cost of luxury items has skyrocketed compared to when he was at the peak of his career.

"The cars that Davido and the rest are buying now for ₦100 million, ₦200 million, in our own time, we were buying those same cars for ₦20 million," he said.

M.I explained that while many celebrities continue to flaunt extravagant lifestyles, his priorities have shifted due to the country's economic challenges.

"I live in Nigeria in real life where people need money. I am not buying a ₦15 million ticket to go to America when I have staff that work with me who have real issues," he stated.

The rapper said his financial decisions are now driven by practicality rather than status, stressing that he no longer feels the need to keep up with the lavish spending of younger Afrobeats stars.

He also noted that despite not being in the industry's "hot moment" like artistes such as Davido and Wizkid, he remains fulfilled with his career and legacy.
