'My wife and I agreed our children won't use phones until university' - Solomon Buchi shares

Life coach and commentator Solomon Buchi has once more captured the public's attention with his declaration that he won't let his kids use phones until they're 18 years old.

Taking to his X account, the life coach claimed that he and his wife have made the clear choice that their kids would not have unrestricted phone use.

This action according to him is the result of growing concern over the potential harm that early phone use may do to children's core values.

According to Buchi, many youngsters today are exposed to phones at an early age, which could encourage an attitude of entitlement and improper behaviour.

He continues by saying that this generation's moral and psychological problems are mostly a result of the early adoption of cellphones and limitless internet access.

In order to address his concerns, Buchi and his wife Arike are establishing a unique home atmosphere.

Their idea includes a home library to promote a love of reading, a music studio to foster musical talent, and a painting studio to promote creativity.

The objective is to engage their children in activities that aren't focused on their phones or the internet.

He wrote: "Early exposure to phones/internet is one of the reasons our generation is messed up. My wife and I agreed on no smartphones for our children till they get into university. They’ll have a home library, home music studio, home painting studio, board games outdoor sports, etc. Let them get their hands dirty in real life, and learn without the frequent interference of screens. The home computer will be restricted to screen time.

"More than the moral implications of letting children use phones, the psychological consequences are damning. The short attention span our generation suffers is because of social media."
