Nollywood star Regina Daniels has broken her silence about her controversial marriage to Senator Ned Nwoko, revealing that her mother tried to protect her and keep her from the relationship for seven years.
In an emotional statement shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday morning, the actress addressed lingering misconceptions surrounding her marriage, particularly claims that she was forced into it as a teenager.
Regina clarified that her family, including her mother, Rita Daniels, strongly opposed her decision to marry the 64-year-old politician.
She disclosed that despite their resistance, she went ahead because she was deeply in love at the time.
The actress, who recently accused Ned Nwoko of **domestic violence**, expressed regret over her past choices and pleaded with Nigerians to **stop attacking her mother online**, stressing that her marriage had nothing to do with money or greed.
“For seven years, my mum held me down,” Regina revealed. “She tried her best, but I have a coconut head. I’m ashamed to say I fell in love, but I actually did. Everyone said no. People should stop saying I married out of greed. We weren’t broke.”
She continued, “What amount of money can a man give a mother to sell her child who was already providing for the family? I was her only source of livelihood. My mother, my brother, everyone warned me. One night, I even drove out intending to kill myself if I didn’t marry Ned.”
