The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has commiserated with the Association of Nigeria Theatre Practitioners, Nollywood, and the family of the late popular Yoruba actor, Murphy Afolabi, whose death was announced on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

Afolabi, who clocked 49 on May 5, died on May 14 after he reportedly slipped in his bathroom at his Ajao Estate residence.

The Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, in a condolence letter signed on Monday, described the death of the Osogbo-born actor as a great loss to the entertainment industry and the state government.

Akinbile-Yussuf, however, said that the Lagos State Government took solace in the fact that the deceased’s contributions to the entertainment industry remained evergreen.

“While praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul, Akinbile-Yussuf called on the relatives and colleagues of the late Afolabi to rally round the family left behind by the deceased during this trying period,” the statement said.

The PUNCH reported that Afolabi, who died at his Ajao Estate residence in Lagos, was buried on Monday, May 15, at his Ikorodu house located at Owoniboys, Mopelufa, by Aleke Bus Stop, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
