Kenneth Okonkwo faces backlash after knocks on Peter Obi

Actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo has come under heavy criticism on social media following his recent remarks about former Labour Party presidential candidate and ADC aspirant, Peter Obi.

Okonkwo, who previously worked closely with Obi during the 2023 presidential campaign, reportedly criticised the former Anambra State governor over his movement from one political platform to another within a short period. According to him, such political decisions raise concerns about Obi’s capacity to become a great politician.

The comments, however, did not sit well with many supporters of Obi, especially users on X, who accused the actor of hypocrisy and political inconsistency.

Reacting to the development, one user wrote: “Kenneth Okonkwo, you can now be vp to atiku abubakar. peter obi has left adc for you guys, we are following him to ndc. I wonder why the noise after Peter Obi’s departure. I think Atiku should be happy that ADC now belongs to him. Na now una go see true meaning of organic love.”

Another user stated: “The way leaders come to power defines how they will govern. Don’t be surprised if Kenneth Okonkwo, still ‘Living in Bondage,’ joins the APC.”

A different X user accused the actor of political opportunism, saying: “Kenneth Okonkwo is finally showing his true colours. He’s been running from one party to another in search of payday.”

Another critic wrote: “Kenneth Okonkwo is a snake and has been unmasked. He should better go and continue with what he used merit for. Thank God for Obi.”

The controversy has since generated heated conversations online, with supporters of both political figures exchanging words over loyalty, political ideology and party defections in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Okonkwo, who gained fame through his role in the iconic Nollywood movie Living in Bondage, has in recent years become increasingly active in politics and public affairs commentary.
