Kate Henshaw slams Nigeria’s new electricity rate system; fans fume

Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has voiced her opposition to the most recent modifications made to Nigeria's energy price structure, calling them "daylight theft" and unfair.

The actress urged the officials to give every citizen equal access to electricity and charge them based on what they consumed.

On July 9, the actress took to her X page to write, “Nowhere, absolutely nowhere in the world, is there this purported ‘banding’ of electricity supply. Give everyone access to electricity and let them pay fairly for their consumption. Yet, every 2 to 3 months, there is an increase in tariff!! Daylight robbery in darkness.”

Kate was responding to a statement made by journalist Olive Modi on the inadequate electricity supply in Nigeria.

According to Modi, electrical companies categorised their consumers into bands in April 2024, with Band A receiving the greatest power but also paying the highest.

The other bands were A through E. Some individuals gripe about having to pay excessive prices for unstable electricity.

Modi said, “Living in Nigeria feels like some sort of toxic form of relationship where you constantly expect something to go wrong.”

A lot of X users supported Kate Henshaw. A tweep stated that some officials give insensitive advice including advising people to turn off their refrigerators when they leave the house.
