Human rights activist Just Adetoun organized a protest titled “Nigerian Women Rise Against Patriachy (We are all Natasha)” in support of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Lagos.

On Friday, the Nigerian Senate suspended Senator Natasha after her altercation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.

It started when the Senate rearranged the seats of the Senators, including Natasha’s. Upon arrival, the Kogi Central lawmaker was dissatisfied with her seating arrangement. When she tried to speak on the floor, the Senate President refused her audience as she was not in her assigned seat.

This led to a heated exchange between Natasha and Akpabio. As a result, during an interview on Arise TV, the lawmaker accused Akpabio of targeting her because she refused his sexual advances.

She later filed a petition with the Senate, where Akpabio dismissed the allegations, and the Senate proceeded to suspend her for six months.

Although some of her colleagues supported Akpabio and accused her of disobeying the Senate’s rules, several Nigerians expressed their support for Senator Natasha. This led her to accuse Akpabio of sexual harassment.

Just Adetoun has earlier declared that she stands with Senator Natasha while condemning the female senators for neglecting her.

In an effort to support Natasha, the activist mobilized a group of women to the protest against patriarchy in Nigeria, where women are silenced and forced to remain silent about sexual harassment.

Senator Natasha, who plans to fight her illegal suspension, reported to the United Nations Forum during the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting in New York on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.
