Award-winning Nollywood filmmaker and actress Ruth Kadiri has issued a passionate appeal to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the general public over the growing circulation of adulterated food, medicine, and consumer goods across Nigeria.
In an emotional video message shared on her social media platforms, Kadiri described the surge in counterfeit consumables as a critical threat to human life, linking it directly to increasing rates of organ failure among children and adults.
The actress recounted a recent personal experience involving fake foodstuffs that left her deeply alarmed.
"I bought garlic, blended it, went upstairs and came back. My garlic had turned green. I'm literally afraid of buying already packed drinks for my kids because I'm scared of what the outcome of that drink might be," Kadiri disclosed.
Kadiri stressed that the crisis is being driven internally by unscrupulous local merchants prioritising profit over human safety.
She urged citizens to blow the whistle on illegal manufacturing hubs within their communities while calling on parents to carefully inspect NAFDAC registration details and expiration dates.
"Most of those products are created and produced in our country by our people, destroying lives and the health of our people regardless of what they have to lose as long as they make money.
"If you live in an environment where fake products are created, please speak up. You might be saving a child from kidney failure... To parents, to guardians, please pay attention to expiry dates. Pay attention to NAFDAC numbers. NAFDAC, please pay attention to the lives of Ngerians," she stated.
Kadiri joins a growing list of prominent entertainment figures who have publicly condemned the market saturation of counterfeit alcohol, pharmaceuticals, and household consumables.
