Popular Nigerian socialite and nightlife entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest has come under heavy criticism online following an unpleasant comment he made about South African singer Tyla.
The controversy erupted after Tyla emerged winner of the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards, defeating Nigerian heavyweights including Davido, Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Ayra Starr.
Shortly after the announcement, Cubana Chief Priest quickly rushed to the singer's comment section, referring to her as an “industry plantain”, a statement many interpreted as an attempt to discredit her success.
The comment instantly triggered backlash across social media platforms with fans accusing the socialite of disrespect, bitterness, and undermining a fellow African artiste’s achievement.

@papi_demillie___"It wasn’t only petty of him, also moronic to even go under her CS to shade her cos your own friend or boss lost the Grammys to her
I won’t be surprised if her alleged baby mama from Kenya won’t use that for another content this week"
mr_chiboi___"Lmao Cubana said “industry plantain” like it’s a bar. Congrats Tyla again, she’s eating. Petty or just big bro vibes? Y’all decide"
@UWASOMBA___"Grammy isn't about how special your voice is. It's pure politics and has always been that way. The day you understand it, then you'll learn to play the same politics with them."
@Ghost_Valhalla____"You don’t see anyone from Wizkid’s camp hating on her.
U don’t see Burna Boy’s camp throwing shots or still ranting about the award either.
So why is it only one person, his fans and his people acting entitled to it? He wasn’t even the only Nigerian nominated in that category."
@kimoranky___"This is a very stupid statement to make. Shey Davido no dey see all these nonsense wey people around am dey do ? Abi them dey purposely do am for the algorithm?"
Dey don cast Cubana chief priest under Tyla comment section 😭💔🫵🏽 pic.twitter.com/yFr6HbMt4G
