Nollywood actor Uche Odoputa has announced plans to hold a funeral for his late father, Kenneth Chukwumezie Odoputa, despite not having his body for burial.
The actor disclosed this in an emotional Instagram post, revealing that his family would honour his father with an empty casket because they had no body to lay to rest.
The development comes amid reports that the family paid a ransom to secure his father's release, but he was allegedly killed.
In his tribute, Odoputa described his father as a man whose life, dignity and legacy deserved to be celebrated despite the circumstances surrounding his death.
“An empty casket. A lifetime of love. In a few weeks, we will honour my father, Mr Kenneth Chukwumezie Odoputa, ‘Honestman’.
“We have no body to lay to rest, but we have his life to remember, his dignity to honour and our love to express,” he wrote.
The actor also used the announcement to encourage people experiencing grief to seek emotional support and urged others to listen and be present for those going through difficult moments.
He concluded his tribute with a heartfelt message to his father, saying: “Dad, we love you. We remember you. We will always honour you.”
Kenneth Chukwumezie Odoputa's memorial portrait shared by the actor indicates that he lived from August 10, 1950, to May 6, 2022.
