Actress Mercy Aigbe officially converts from Christianity to Islam

Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe has formally announced that she has converted to Islam.

The actress sparked controversy last year when she shared a video of her covert wedding to filmmaker and new found love, Kazim Adeoti.

Recall that the actress married Kazim Adeoti on December 31, 2021 in a small ceremony, but she didn't publicly announce it until she posted a video of the event to her Instagram page with the caption: "Throwback to a beautiful day. Happy and Thankful."

Aigbe had continued to use her birth name despite their marriage up until this weekend, April 2, when she revealed in an interview that she now goes by her Islamic name.

Aigbe stated that she has changed her name to Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti during a lecture and special prayers for Ramadan that she and her husband, Kazeem Adeoti, held.

The actress explained her new religious identity in a social media video that has since gone viral, saying: "Insha Allah, My new name is Hajia Meenah Mercy Adeoti. Meenah with a "H".
