Four docked for allegedly impersonating police

The police, on Thursday, arraigned four men before a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly impersonating the police. The defendants – Mustapha Mohammed, Henry Ben, Godwin Ahmadu and Hosea Alfred – were arraigned on a count charge of impersonation, which they all, however, denied committing. The prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that the age of the defendants ranged from 22 to 28 years. He said that they were arrested on Jan. 12 by a team of policemen, led by one Insp. Peter Ajau, attached to the surveillance unit of Karu police station. Adeyanju said that the defendants were parading themselves as policemen at Mammy Road, Nyanya, Abuja. He said that they could not give a satisfactory account of themselves during the investigation. The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 132 of the Penal Code. The judge, Abdullahi Jibrin, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50, 000 each, with one surety each in like sum. He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Feb. 10 for hearing.
