Nigerians have once again called out members of the Nigerian Police Force on Twitter, after learning of the death of a Rivers State mechanic, Chima Ikwunado, perpetrated by the Rivers State Division of the Nigerian Police Force.
As narrated by blogger and journalist, Comrade Phils, members of the River State Police Command, Mile 1 Police Station, E-Crack reportedly arrested a mechanic, Chima and 4 of his colleagues for driving against traffic during the Yuletide.
Instead of administering the appropriate punishment to him and his colleagues, they chose to arrest the five mechanics instead; with the aim of extorting money from them after finding out the huge amount of money they possessed.
Apparently, the five mechanics were just testing the cars of their customers after fixing them. Choosing to divide themselves into 3s and 2s to test both cars until they met the police after taking one way.
The policemen of E-crack did not stop at extorting the five mechanics, they tortured them to confess that the cars in their possession were not theirs but stolen.
In the process, Chima, the blogger's mechanic died while the other four were nearly tortured to death.
In the process of the journalist investigating the whole mess through the help of the deceased's brother, Obinna, they were able to uncover a deep story of police brutality.
Sadly, bureaucratic processes could not save Chima's life on time.
In the end, the police attempted to cover the matter up by charging the rest of the four to court over a small charge they could go out on bail for.
Nigerians were livid in their approach.
They dragged the Nigerian police, terming them a scourge to the society.
The law is clear, it's better to let a 100 criminal abscond than to convict one innocent person, the number of innocent persons the @PoliceNG has ruined their lives is unimaginable, innocent lives in prison and dead as a result of activities from rogue officers! #JusticeForChima https://t.co/9ylyPg6qzD

Lekan could not hide his worry
My heart bleeds for Nigeria. How did we get here? What happened to our values? Is it too much money or lack of it? No more regard for human lives... now we have to run away from the people who are meant to protect us???
