The police in Rivers State said a suspected armed robber was gunned down while robbing guests at a hotel in Bori, Khana Local Government Area of the State.

The command said the suspect and four of his gang members opened fire on its men, who responded to a distress call, adding that one of the robbers was unlucky as he fell to the superior firepower of the policemen.

Our correspondent gathered that the Divisional Police Officer, Bori Division, Bako Amgbanshin, led the operation.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday, said but for the timely response of the police, more guests would have fallen victim.

“Yes, armed robbers went to a certain hotel in Bori. They were robbing from room to room. When the police were alerted, we went there. They engaged us, but we were able to overpower them. One of them died on the spot and we recovered his rifle and over N50,000 and mobile phones, which were stolen from victims,” he stated.

Omoni said the police had spread their dragnet to ensure that the fleeing gang members were apprehended and made to face the law.
